Here is a quick overview of the Gawáraë - the various races that inhabit the Aust of the World. Tormentosa is home to two major racial groups: the races of Men, called Ntú, and Elven-kind. While appearing superficially human, elves are a breed apart - every individual perilously beautiful, extremely intelligent, and capable of amazing feats of mind and magic. Men-folk however - the Endhro, the Ukujamaal (Dwarves), Quyi (Gnomes) and Abatúa (the Halflings) - while not as comely or gifted with such raw power, are nevertheless still to be reckoned with, being generally greater in numbers and producing not a few masters of great ability.

The Endhro, most populous of the races of Men, are recalled in myth to be the descendants of the ancient Bhäntirim, known as the the Second People. Tallest and strongest of the children of Amaërava and Odú, the Endhro are brown skinned men and women of many houses. Their blood is a mixed and powerful brew derived in proportions from that of the Bhäntir of old, prodigal Nordhmen of the Lost North, and crafty traders of the Far East.
The Endhro are a race of capable farmers, builders and merchants, and are not without some powerful masters of magic. More information can be found in the main articles: Endhro
Halflings are those creatures that call themselves Abatúa or Olbítlara, a race of very short men-folk found mainly in the Westfold and along the coast of Eden. They are hole-builders, earth-tillers and pipe-smokers, of whom the majority enjoy a simple rural life-style of regular habits and conservative conversation. Many of their tribe are fanatical with records and numbers, and have risen high in the ranks of the Kings courts and treasury.
The Olbítlar are not of course without individuals of adventurous blood, and more than one halfling has entered the legends of larger folk as a hero of action. More information can be found in the main writings on these people: Halfling
Called also Gnomyn, or Gnomon, these elfish creatures live isolated nomadic lives far away in the nordhern deserts, but do occasionally trade with the peoples of the Westfold Sovereignty and barbarians of the Borderlands. They are people of nature and the minds of their elders hold ancient wisdom.
The Gnomyn are not technological naivetes however, and one particularly famous Gnome, Captain McKracken, recently invented the keeled hull, which has kindled the desire of sea-going enterprises in the Westfold. More information about the Gnomish peoples can be found in the main article: Gnome
A scattered nation of short, stocky folk, whose bloodline descends from the ancient Bjaar-Un race (nowadays often called Baal-Un). These long-bearded men of the mountains are revered for their skill in mining and works of stone and metal. They prefer to be called Dwarrows by others, thinking "dwarf" to be perjorative.
Dwarves are quite rare and are not very sociable, and are thus seldom seen amongst the more populous peoples of the Endhro (who often label them Tokoloshe? - thralls to the Sorcerors of Muloi), and are generally spurned by elves. More information can be found in the main article: Dwarf

Elves are a beautiful, intelligent race of tall and slender folk, some of whom claim immortality. Elves are capable of mind-speech, conversing in silent communion and making decisions in concert.
Elves are quite large in number, but the greatest hosts of these forest-dwelling folk live many miles away in the Kingdom of Eden in the Far East, where giant trees hold the mansions of the High Elves hundreds of feet in the air, and only the sound of music and singing filters down to the forest-paths below. More often than the elves would like to admit, unions between Man and Elf occur and sometimes bear the fruit of Half-elven offspring. Usually the elf partner is of the Avarhim, those elves who find the mind-speech of the elves claustrophobic, and head out into the greater world to experience the world-at-large, where they fall in love with an individual of mortal race.
Half-elves bring over many elven traits into there core humanity, but many of the finer abilities of the Elves fade with the generations, or swim as confused urges in the mind of the child. Many half-elves are somewhat "touched", growing up to be trouble-makers or outcasts. More information can be found in the main article: Half-elf

Race And Languages
All characters know how to speak Common. A dwarf, elf, gnome, half-elf, half-orc, or halfling also speaks a racial language, as appropriate. A character who has an Intelligence bonus at 1st level speaks other languages as well, one extra language per point of Intelligence bonus as a starting character.
Any character except a barbarian can read and write all the languages he or she speaks.
Clerics, druids, and wizards can choose certain languages as bonus languages even if they’re not on the lists found in the race descriptions. These class-related languages are as follows:
A Small character gets a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks. A Small character’s carrying capacity is three-quarters of that of a Medium character.
A Small character generally moves about two-thirds as fast as a Medium character.
A Small character must use smaller weapons than a Medium character.
